OUR SERVICES
Mice
When our technicians arrive on site, they do an inspection inside the house to locate where the mice are frequenting. Upon determining this, they place out commercial strength poison bait in the areas of activity. This is placed in tamper proof stations to ensure that pets and children can not access the bait. As well, the technicians inspect the house for possible entry points. They locate and draw these areas to your attention and recommend how they should be sealed. Our technicians are not contractors and therefore DO NOT seal any holes. Provided that all entry points get sealed, we provide a 3 month guarantee.

Hantavirus Cleanup
Hantavirus is a disease carried by deer mice that can spread from the mouse, its droppings, and urine. It cannot be transmitted from human to human, only from deer mouse to human. It is fatal in 65 to 77 per cent of cases. Therefore, we recommend that cleaning up mice droppings be done by professionals. We apply a germicidal spray to neutralize any viruses, and then clean up and remove the droppings. Generally we do this after a mouse treatment has been carried out, so that the mice are gone. Otherwise you will need a few HV cleanups rather than just one.
If you would like to book an HV cleanup, please call our office at 448-2661 or email us at service@ecopest.ca.

Bedbugs
Treatment for bedbugs involves a full spray treatment of the infected dwelling three times. Each treatment is two weeks apart, because the spray does not affect the eggs. After two weeks, the eggs have hatched and the new bedbugs are now able to be sprayed and killed.
If it is a house, we spray all rooms and common areas through the house. If an apartment is affected, we recommend treating the surrounding units (above, below, beside and across).
The other part to a bedbug treatment is the preparation of the house or unit(s) affected. Good preparation is key to an effective bedbug treatment as it allows our sprays to reach the bedbugs. Treatment involves moving all items 2 feet away from the walls, and putting the mattress and boxspring up against the wall for treatment. As well, you must wash all clothing that may have been in contact with the insects in hot water followed by a hot dryer, and vacuum the house thoroughly before and after the spray treatment. After the spray treatment, you must leave the area for 4 hours while the chemical dries. For further information on preparation, check out our preparation sheets.

Cockroaches
Treatment for cockroaches can involve either a spray treatment or a bait treatment, depending on the level of infestation. Usually we start with a bait application, where the technician baits behind the stove, fridge, sinks, and in the cupboard areas. Preparation sheets can be seen on our website. For a spray treatment, the preparation is more involved, as things need to be moved away from the wall at least 2 feet, as well as in all cupboards. After the spray treatment, you must leave the area for 4 hours while the chemical dries.
An essential part of a cockroach treatment involves good sanitation and clean practices. This is especially the case when a bait application is done. If a cockroach has a choice between sticky residues, leftover food scraps, etc. and our bait, they will prefer the scraps and residue. Keeping food in sealed containers, cleaning up spills, doing your dishes regularly, washing the floor, and cleaning under your appliances are all recommended when dealing with cockroaches. For further details, check out our Risk Factors page.

Crawling Insects
For treatment of general crawling insects in a home or apartment we do a spray treatment to the internal perimeter of the space. This involves pulling everything away from the walls 2 feet. See the full preparation sheet for the specific insect you have problems with in our preparation sheet section. After the spray treatment, you must leave the area for 4 hours while the chemical dries.
For pests such as grain beetles that have gotten into the cupboards and foodstuffs you must clear our the cupboards so we can have access to spray inside of these. As well, any infested food must be thrown out so the area doesn’t get re-infested. Food such as flour, cereals and pasta should always be stored in sealed containers.

Pigeons
For treatment of pigeons, we do a variety of things. They are all dependent on the site conditions and areas the pigeons are frequenting. This requires an inspection by a technician so that recommendations can be made on site, since each situation is different.
If you would like to book an inspection, please call us at 448-2661 or email us at service@ecopest.ca.

Sparrows
The primary problems associated with house sparrows are caused by their close proximity to people. The unsightly nests and white droppings are generally considered undesirable. The dry plant material in the nest can be a fire hazard, especially inside lighted signs. When birds occupy a warehouse and defecate on stored goods this becomes an expensive nuisance if retailers refuse to accept contaminated goods.

Voles
For treatment of voles, we place out external bait stations which contain commercial strength poison bait. These are tamper proof so that other animals, pets, and children can’t access it. The amount of stations that will be needed will depend on the level of infestation. These stations are available at our office in Edmonton; however our technicians have the knowledge of where these need to be placed for maximum effectiveness.

Perimeter spray
For many crawling insects that get into our basements and homes, the problem begins on the outside. Pests such as sowbugs, root weevils, beetles, ants, and spiders build populations on the outside of the house that eventually make their way inside. A perimeter spray treatment to the external of the house is recommended, so that these levels can be reduced, therefore reducing the internal numbers. As well, for prevention of carpenter ant infestations, we recommend getting an external treatment done annually. This barrier helps protect your house from carpenter ants, and any other crawling insect.

Carpenter Ants
Treatment for carpenter ants involves an internal and external spray treatment. For the inside, this involves preparation as well as vacating the area for 4 hours. The external needs to be prepared for a spray treatment as well, ensuring the technician can spray the outside without having things in his way. Depending on the level of infestation, the technician may need to inject insecticidal foam into the walls. This means a pin sized hole (1-2 millimeter diameter) needs to be drilled into the wall so the tip can be inserted. This isn’t sealed after the treatment is done. It is recommended that the lawn is cut prior to the treatment, so that the technician can identify where the external nest is. If you have a cedar house, the soffits, eaves, and siding must be sprayed as well. For this sort of problem, we recommend getting an external treatment done annually to prevent future infestations.

Anthills
Treatment for ants involves an insecticidal spray treatment, or an insecticidal dusting to the nest. These can be treated with or without the homeowner present; however if you are not home we do ask that you flag each nest you want treated so our technician is able to find them.
If you would like to book a treatment, please call us at 448-2661 or email us at service@ecopest.ca.
Wasp/Bees/Hornets
Treatment for wasps involves an insecticidal dusting or spray treatment to the nest. The dust is tracked back to the nest in cases where an actual nest can not be seen and this is spread through the colony as they clean it off each other. We do ask that in cases where the nest is in the eaves or in a crack going into the wall of a house that you DO NOT seal up the nest until it is fully killed. If you do seal it, they will try to find another way out which usually results in them getting into your house. If this happens, we can not treat for them as we only treat for them from the external point of entry.
If you would like to book a treatment, please call us at 448-2661 or email us at service@ecopest.ca.
Tree sprays
Tree sprays are always weather dependant. We cannot spray if it is raining, or if it is too windy. The rain washes off the treatment, and the wind moves the spray to areas we don’t want sprayed. This treatment involves a pressurized spray thoroughly applied to the tree or trees that have a pest problem.
